Lookit Design has spent years building, hosting, and maintaining WordPress sites for clients across nonprofits, media, healthcare, and small business. Somewhere around the fiftieth site, a pattern becomes impossible to ignore: the same small frustrations, repeated across every project, quietly eating hours that should have gone into design work.
Purging a cache means leaving the site you are looking at and logging into a separate dashboard. Writing SEO metadata for two hundred posts means two hundred trips through the same form. Resizing a media library full of oversized uploads means doing it one image at a time, or paying a subscription for a tool that does one job.
So we started building the tools we wished existed. Not as a side project, and not as a portfolio piece, but because our own team needed them on our own client sites. Every plugin in this suite began the same way: someone on the team said “there has to be a faster way to do this,” and there wasn’t, so we made one.
That origin matters. These tools were used internally, across a real fleet of live production sites, long before we considered offering them to anyone else. They were shaped by the people who have to live with them every day. Good software is not a single act of writing code. Our process has three distinct stages, and each one exists to catch a different kind of mistake.
Every tool starts as a question about a workflow, not a feature request. What is actually slow here? Who is doing this task, how often, and what do they have open on the other monitor while they do it? We answer those questions before anyone writes a line of code, because the most expensive kind of software is the kind that works perfectly and solves the wrong problem.
We build a working, clickable version of the interface first. Real buttons, real states, real flow. Our team clicks through it, argues about it, and changes it. Iterating on a prototype takes minutes; iterating on production code takes days. By the time we commit to building something properly, the interface has already survived a dozen rounds of “actually, can we move that?”
Only then does the approved prototype go to our development team, who rebuild it properly against our codebase: security review, testing on a real WordPress install matching our production PHP environment, and a full compliance pass before anything ships. Prototypes are specifications, never final code. Nothing reaches a client site without going through that gate.
We hold every plugin to WordPress.org’s coding and security standards, whether or not that particular tool is headed for the public directory.
That means output is escaped, forms and background requests are verified, and every administrative action checks that the person triggering it actually has permission. It means assets are enqueued properly instead of dumped inline, so caching and optimization plugins behave predictably. It means we run WordPress’s own Plugin Check tooling and resolve what it flags rather than shipping around it.
It also means we do not test on production. Ever. New versions are tested in staging environments that mirror the real thing, on the same PHP versions our servers actually run.
None of this is glamorous, and none of it shows up in a feature list. It is the difference between a plugin that works and a plugin you can safely install on dozens of client sites.
Some of what we build uses AI, and this is where we made a deliberate decision that sets our tools apart from most of the market.
Nearly every AI plugin for WordPress asks the site owner to go create an account with an AI provider, generate an API key, paste that key into their WordPress dashboard, and then manage the provider’s billing and terms of service themselves. That puts a sensitive credential inside WordPress, hands the customer an unpredictable bill, and makes a non-technical site owner responsible for infrastructure they never asked to run.
We do it the other way around. Our plugins are thin clients. They hold no keys and no credentials. They talk to our own managed platform, which handles authentication, usage limits, and metering, and which in turn calls enterprise AI services running on Amazon Web Services: language models, transcription, speech synthesis, document understanding, and image analysis.
The practical result is that you install a plugin and it works. No API key, no separate provider account, no surprise invoice. And because the intelligence lives on our platform rather than inside the plugin, improvements reach every site without anyone running an update.
Consistency runs through all of it. The tools share a visual language, a set of interaction patterns, and a common place to live in the WordPress admin, so learning one means you already mostly know the next. The suite is still growing, and it grows the same way it started: by watching where the work gets slow, and fixing that.
